Beni Baningime’s lack of Derby County minutes since signing Everton loan explained

Beni Baningime has only played three minutes as a substitute since joining Derby County on loan from Everton.

The 22-year-old midfielder joined the Rams on transfer deadline day February 1 and was one of five loaned players to arrive that day.

Another, attacking Lee grégoire played in all six matches (three starts, three as a substitute), George Edmundson made three appearances (two starts, one as a substitute), Teden Mengi two appearances (one start, one as a substitute) and Patrick roberts four appearances (one holder, three as a substitute).

When asked if there was a reason for Baningime’s limited minutes, Deputy Director Liam Rosenior said: “Beni is another outstanding character. The five players we signed in the window fit our culture. and what we’re trying to build here, which is a team ethic, he gets along very well with the players.

“Beni hasn’t played first-team football for a long time, but what he has been doing, and because we train so hard, his level of fitness and sharpness has exploded since he got here .

“He’s pushing, he’s really pushing. He’s been exceptional in training, he’s pushing the other players in the midfield and I’m sure sooner rather than later you might see him off the bench or even start a game. . He’s a big part of our team, like every member. “

There is competition for places in midfield with Max Bird, Graeme Shinnie and Jason Knight being the first pick currently in 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

Baningime’s previous first-team game for Everton before joining Derby was a substitute in a 1-1 draw at Swansea in April 2018, but he has been a regular under-23 for the Blues.
