A collection of songs can often be called the “soundtrack of your life” – it’s like a roadmap that retraces the major milestones that got you to where you are today.
The brand new show ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ at the Babbacombe Theater in Torquay promises to rekindle some of those memories, while no doubt creating new ones during production.
If you have a passion for music, you’ll enjoy the inspiring musical journey, encapsulating all genres across the musical spectrum spanning six decades performed by nine talented singers, that will leave you in awe.
Live performance still has its place in our hectic lives, going beyond the realms of daily reality, enjoy telling stories to music.
Enjoy stories found in hit West End and Broadway musicals Phantom of the Opera, Grease and The Rocky Horror Show plus sound clips from the award-winning film soundtracks Grease, No Time to Die, Encanto and Chess as well as popular chart-topping songs associated with star artists such as Billie Eilish, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Blondie, Steps, Cilla Black, The Temptations, Roberta Flack, Dusty Springfield, The Four Tops and Michael Bublé.
The show is headlined by a Babbacombe favorite, Andy Oakley. As well as being a versatile comedian and musician, he can deliver a song that demonstrates his vocal prowess and talent for characterization, which will be evident in his rather unusual portrayal of the Ghost… of the Birmingham Hippodrome!
Other cast members who will hit the high notes are celebrity entertainer, who never ceases to impress, Dean Winters and “the Voice” singer Holly Cosgrove, who is as adept at performing a pop hit as she is. the show’s most dramatic song.
Also on stage are accomplished musical theater performer Joe Stone, singing sensations Harriet Loveridge and Claire Waring, familiar to many as local pantomime and musical theater stars, crooner Joe Harris, who can pack a punch punch in more than one way and leave you ‘Feeling Good’ just like Lucy Samuels and Sophie Beresford swapping their dancing shoes for a microphone.
A great song will lift your heart, warm your soul and make you feel good, imagine your euphoria after enjoying an evening with so many wonderful melodic memories, building on and adding to the soundtrack of our lives , all of which were seamlessly merged by the show’s producer and director Colin Matthews, music director Pete Leonard and choreographer Wesley Waring.
