Caravan Farm Theater in Spallumcheen presents its first winter show in two years – Vernon News

Caravan Farm Theater wants to take people to a Joyride.

Spallumcheen’s long-standing open-air theater presents a winter performance based on The Greatest Gift by Philip Van Doren Stein, written in 1943.

The biggest giveaway is the movie that the classic It’s a Wonderful Life movie is based on.

The Caravan Show will feature eight professional actors, sleds, horses and the beauty of the northern Okanagan in winter.

Caravan’s Estelle Shook said it was the first winter show in two years.

“Our goal is for the audience to feel like they just attended the best party ever – that the hosts were so generous and fun that they were blown away by the fun of it all,” said Shook.

And how will Joyride do this?

Well, George Bailey won’t be played by Jimmy Stewart. The role may not even be played by a man, and even the actors don’t know who will “draw” that role for each of the 70 board game performances in the opening scene.

The show’s eight “dazzling” professional actors include Laara Sadiq, Allan Louis, George Young, Cheyenne Scott, Agnes Tong, Brahm Taylor, Jesse Gervais and Gloria Morgan.

“We wanted to explore where and how this story makes sense in our world today. And we want to do it with our audience, not for our audience. It’s a collaborative experience, in the way charades or twenty questions are immersive, interactive and pleasantly collaborative. To achieve this, we’ve assembled an incredible cast of actors, including two community members Gloria Morgan and George Young, ”said Shook.

Renowned Vancouver-based songwriter Marguerite Witvoet picked out a handful of recognizable Canadian pop songs, gave them a Christmas twist, and then arranged them to be performed by the eight actors, who form an impressive choir.

“The familiarity of these songs gives us dramatic scope for underlining and adds an element of ‘name of this song’,” Shook said.

“We are delighted to welcome our audience back to the winter show. For many it is their Christmas present to each other, so we are working hard to make it a meaningful gift. “

Tickets for Joyride, on sale now, are available by phone at 1-866-546-8533 or by visiting Caravan online at caravanfarmtheater.com. The show runs from December 3 to January 2.

COVID protocols, including masks and proof of vaccination, are in place.
