The Harrington Arts Alliance has teamed up with a local brewpub to offer a first in their acting repertoire: dinner theatre.
The HAA cast will perform their upcoming show “First Date the Musical” at the Tilted Barrel on April 18, offering not only the chance to see the new show, but also enjoy food and drink along the way.
Brittany Grim, executive director of HAA, said she was contacted by the owners of the Tilted Barrel, who are themselves parents of HAA, to take the next show and offer it as a dinner theater option.
Tim deBord, owner of the Tilted Barrel, said their son, who is now the restaurant’s chef, and their daughter have played with HAA before, so they know the Harringtons and what the alliance does.
He said his son and wife recently came up with the idea to offer the community a chance to see the show and get some great food on a day when the brewery is usually closed.
“It was a match made in heaven,” deBord said.
“That (show) would have ended on Saturday, but now (the cast) can look forward to another (show),” said Brandon Harrington, one of the co-founders of the alliance.
Grim said the show, a musical created about 10 years ago based on a couple going on a first date, is fast, fast and funny.
“There’s something for everyone,” she said.
Grim added that funds from the show will also help the alliance purchase a new light board for its main stage at HAA. Harrington said it would also be great to give the cast the opportunity to perform the show again to cheering crowds.
DeBord said while the goal is to help HAA raise money for the light board, he also sees it as a way to give the community an experience they’re not used to having. and hopefully something she can do more and more of in the future. He said it’s a great opportunity for people who might not go to things like the Candlelight Dinner Playhouse to “discover great art, eat, and make a night of it.”
“It will be a different experience, but it will be the whole show,” Grim said. “It will be interactive and really fun. I’m really excited about this. I think this will be the start of something cool that HAA and Tilted Barrel can do together.
