VIDEO: Magical marriage proposal at Ben Hart show in Bridgwater

A MAGICIAN jumped at the chance to help create a magical proposition on stage during his live show at the McMillan Theater in Bridgwater on Friday night.

Ben Hart, who is currently touring the UK with his show ‘Wonder’, was contacted by Nathan Richards ahead of the show about his plans for an onstage proposal to girlfriend Rosie-Marie Evans.

The pair met at Nathan’s parents’ pub around two months before the first Covid lockdown began in 2020.

They had planned to watch a live magic show on their first date, but the pandemic quickly put a halt to all live theater performances.

When Ben saw Nathan’s message, he replied, “Absolutely yes, let’s try to make it as magical as possible.”

On the day of the show, Nathan sent someone to collect the engagement ring which would later be included in a magic trick in front of hundreds of people at the theater.

At the start of the show, he invited the couple on stage to participate in a card trick.

After successfully merging playing cards together, he unwrapped a box disguised to look like a deck of playing cards containing the engagement ring.

Much to the delight of the audience, Nathan got down on one knee – and to their relief, Rosie-Marie said yes.

After the show, groom-to-be Nathan said: ‘I promised to take her to a magic show as our first date when I met her and then Covid stopped that from happening.

“Now is the first time we’ve come to see a magician almost two years after we met, and that’s why I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to make this our first date while being engaged.”

Speaking about his role in the engagement, Ben added: “I think I was probably more nervous than Nathan, but it seemed to go really well, and the reaction from the public was electrifying.

“I can think of no more magical experience to share with an audience than what happened tonight.

“My show is called Wonder and we certainly saw the wonder in the eyes of the audience as they reacted to this incredible and beautiful display of love.”

After Ben shared a video of the engagement on his Facebook page, the couple received dozens of congratulatory messages from the magician’s fans.

In the comments, the bride-to-be said, “Ben Hart, thank you so much for making this moment so magical that I will never forget.”
