Waubonnee President Recognized by Alliance for Innovation and Transformation – Shaw Local


The Alliance for Innovation and Transformation presented Dr. Christine J. Sobek, President of Waubonee Community College, with the John J. Politi Legacy Award at its recent annual Summer Institute.

In AFIT’s more than 30-year history, only four other people have won the Legacy Award. The Legacy Award honors an individual who has created a legacy of growth. Sobek was recognized for her commendable service in assisting in the innovative design of AFIT initiatives, which have moved the organization and its members forward.

“Although this is Dr. Sobek’s last year with us at AFIT, there is no doubt that his tremendous ripple effect will remain,” said Erika Liodice, AFIT’s Executive Director.

Sobek will retire as president of Waubonee Community College effective Jan. 4, 2023, after 33 years of distinguished college service, more than 21 years as president of Waubonee, and a total of 44 years of community college service. from Illinois.
